Ruthie Henshall is to return to Chicago this for a nine week season between 14 December and 28 February, to play Roxie Hart, the role she originated when the musical first opened in London 12 years ago.
West End regular and Dancing On Ice judge Henshall is joined in the cast by Terra C MacLeod, who will play Velma Kelly, a role she originated in the French production of Chicago. Chicago regulars Ian Kelsey and David Ganly continue in the show, playing Amos Hart and Billy Flynn.
One of musical theatre’s most acclaimed performers, Henshall’s list of London credits includes Cats, Miss Saigon, Les Misérables, Crazy For You, Oliver!, The Woman In White and, most recently, Marguerite. Her career has seen her nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award on five occasions, winning once for her performance in She Loves Me.
Due to a previous commitment, Henshall will not be performing between 28 December and 2 January, when Bonnie Langford will temporarily revive her performance as Roxie Hart.
The ever-popular musical Chicago tells the story of two showgirls whose murderous misdemeanours find them thrust into the limelight and thrown into jail. Only the media-manipulating lawyer Billy Flynn can save them from punishment and help them use their newly acquired notoriety to put their names in lights.
Chicago currently stars Emma Clifford and Amra-Faye Wright.
