Haven’t seen Motown The Musical yet? Well, you have 450,000 more opportunities to because that’s the number of new tickets released today. What’s the cause of the influx of tickets? Well, we’ve heard it on the grapevine that the jukebox musical has extended its run at the Shaftesbury Theatre until 2 November 2019.
4 July mark’s Motown The Musical’s 1,000 performance. 2018 will also see a UK tour which will start in October which will run simultaneously. In January 2019, Motown, the record label, will mark its 60th anniversary and a month later, Motown The Musical will celebrate its 3rd year in the West End.
The sensational production features a 15-piece orchestra who accompany the incredible cast who will perform 50 well-loved tracks on stage. Here the likes of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’ll Be There, Dancing In The Street, Stop! In The Name Of Love, My Girl, and I Heard It through the Grapevine all in one show.
The autobiographical tale tells the story of the life and career of Berry Gordy. After borrowing $800 from his family, the Motown founder broke barriers and records becoming a music mogul who would change the industry forever. Creating Motown Records led Berry to discover and launch the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, and many more. Motown the Musical uncovers the true story of the legendary record label that changed music history and created the soundtrack of a generation.
It received four Tony nominations during its Broadway run and received rave reviews since opening in the West End.
The cast is led by Jay Perry as Berry Gordy, Natalie Kassanga as Diana Ross, David Albury as Smokey Robinson and Carl Spencer as Marvin Gaye.
