The Theatre Royal Haymarket is to host two special performances of a new play created and performed by a company of wounded and sick personnel from the armed forces.
The Two Worlds Of Charlie F, which is created by the Bravo 22 Company, will receive both a matinee and evening performance on Sunday 22 January.
The project, created by Masterclass and the Royal British Legion in partnership with the Army Recovery Capability and Royal Navy Recovery Pathway, has brought 30 service personnel together in a project aimed at aiding their recovery and giving them experience in the theatre industry.
The play, which is written by Owen Sheers who provided the script for Michael Sheen’s award-winning production of The Passion in Port Talbot, was created using the stories and experiences of Bravo 22 Company’s members. They range from Major Stewart Hill, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, to Rifleman Daniel Shaw, who lost both his legs in an explosion whilst serving in Afghanistan. As Lance Corporal Cassidy Little, who received injuries to his lower limbs, spine, pelvis and left eye, explains: “It’s brilliant to have something else to think about other than how slow you’re crawling or how fast you’re walking.”
Speaking about the project, the Royal British Legion’s National President, Lieutenant General Sir John Kiszely KCB MC, commented: “The Bravo 22 Company is an extraordinary project bringing together an exceptional group of individuals, whom I have no doubt will reap great benefits from this opportunity as facilitated by The Theatre Royal Haymarket Masterclass Trust. The project is an exciting addition to the Legion’s support for the recovery of injured Armed Forces personnel and our care of their families.”
