Tracy Beaker Gets Real, which brings children’s novelist Jacqueline Wilson’s much-loved character to life in a brand new stage adaptation, comes to Hackney Empire from 3-7 July as part of a national tour.
Tracy Beaker Gets Real is set in The Dumping Ground, care home to Tracy, her arch enemy Justine Littlewood, Peter and Louise. New care worker Sheriff and Elaine the Pain have their work cut out when Beaker comes back to stay – that is until her mum returns from Hollywood to whisk her away again. It is hard to break through the Beaker armour – just ask her friends, or Sheriff, or visiting lady writer Cam – but when Tracy gets what she wished for we find out she isn’t so tough after all.
Commissioned by Nottingham Playhouse, Tracy Beaker Gets Real is written by Mary Morris and directed by David Newman, with songs by Grant Olding. The cast includes Pippa Duffy as Tracy, Andy Steed (an X-Factor finalist in 2004) as Peter and Alice Redmond as Cam.
Wilson is a best-selling and award-winning children’s author who is currently serving a two-year term as Children’s Laureate. Her two novels featuring the character of Tracy have already spawned a five-season CBBC television show entitled The Story Of Tracy Beaker, also written by Morris.
