Tall Stories’ musical adaptation of every child’s best-loved literary creature The Gruffalo will return to the West End this Christmas, adding to the wealth of theatrical offerings available for families this festive season.
Playing from 20 November to 12 January at the Lyric theatre, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s endearing tale follows the journey of a mouse who ventures into the deep dark wood where she encounters a host of woodland creatures, outsmarting each of them with her tale of the creature – half-grizzly bear, half-buffalo – that she believes to be fictional.
Created by acclaimed children’s theatre company Tall Stories, whose adaptations of Room On The Broom and The Gruffalo’s Child have previously been seen across the capital, the production combines music, laughter and physical theatre to tell the well-known tale about the scariest yet most adorable of woodland creatures.
Directed by Olivia Jacobs with music by Jon Fiber and Andy Shaw, the cast of the forthcoming festive treat includes Susanna Jennings as the intrepid rodent adventurer, Timothy Richey as the victims of her trickery and Tom Crook as the much-loved Gruffalo.
The production’s announcement follows a host of stage shows adapted from picture books by acclaimed writer/illustrator duo Donaldson and Scheffler heading to the capital this Christmas, with The Snail And The Whale playing at the St James theatre from 10 December to 5 January and Stick Man returning for a third festive run at the Leicester Square theatre from 16 November to 5 January.
