This year, Mousetrap Theatre Projects is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Family First Nights. To mark the occasion, they are launching A Gran Day Out. For this special occasion, all of the families that have participated in previous Family First Nights have been invited to an exclusive performance of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap.
But why call it A Gran Day Out? The bond between a child and their grandparent is a special thing. And spending time with them can create lasting memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. That’s why the invited families have been encouraged to bring their children along with their grandparents (or an auntie, uncle, older neighbour or friend) to the performance which will take place on Thursday 16 August at 3pm.
In the famous whodunnit, hoteliers Giles and Mollie find themselves particularly busy when a snowstorm hits the local area. Led by their greed, they open their doors to more customers than usual. Things go well until they receive a phone call from the police saying there’s a dangerous murderer on the loose. This leads Giles and Mollie, along with their guests, wondering what the night will bring and if, indeed, they will encounter a killer…
As well as a performance of the longest-running play in the world, A Gran Day Out will have fun activities including face painting, a prize draw, and a few surprises.
Mousetrap’s Family First Nights is a programme which offers over 500 low-income families and those facing difficult times the opportunity to attend the theatre for just £6 a ticket. For five weeks during the summer there are 34 West End shows on offer to the families that have been identified by social service agencies, charities and community organisations. Three free family drama workshops, free children’s books for families choosing one of five children’s shows, four access performances and a special 20th Anniversary Art Competition for children 5 – 16-year-olds are also available through the programme.
After the summer, the participating families are invited to join the exclusive Family First Nights mailing list. Through that, they will receive offers for theatre, opera, dance, concerts, exhibitions, and special events twice a month.
