Julie Graham and Daisy Beaumont will star in Shelagh Stephenson’s Enlightenment at the Hampstead theatre from 30 September to 30 October (press night 6 October).
A psychological thriller, Enlightenment focuses on the parents of a young man who goes missing in South East Asia. Desperate to find him, they go down avenues they would never have previously contemplated and find themselves caught in a net of lies and deceit.
Scottish actress Graham returns to the stage after making her name in a number of popular television series including At Home With The Braithwaites, Bonekickers, William And Mary and, most recently, as lead character Abby Grant in Survivors.
Beaumont, who appeared on the West End stage in Boeing Boeing at the Comedy theatre, is also well known for her television work, which includes comedy shows The Armstrong And Miller Show and Star Stories as well as dramas Hotel Babylon, New Tricks and The Border.
The pair is joined in Enlightenment by Richard Clothier, who has previously worked with Hampstead theatre Artistic Director Ed Hall’s company Propeller, National Theatre and RSC regular Paul Freeman, Polly Kemp, whose credits include Becket at the Theatre Royal Haymarket and Tom Weston-Jones, who makes his professional debut in this production.
Enlightenment is the first production in director Hall’s first season at Hampstead theatre and is followed by new plays by Athol Fugard, Melly Still, Nina Raine and Enda Walsh, as well as the return of Mike Leigh with a revival of his play Ecstasy.
