Goodman leads Winslow Boy

Published 28 January 2013

Olivier Award winner Henry Goodman will lead the cast of Lindsay Posner’s forthcoming production of The Winslow Boy at the Old Vic theatre.

The critically acclaimed actor and recent Theatre Awards UK winner will star as Arthur Winslow in Terrence Rattigan’s drama from 8 March (press night), with further casting still to be announced.

Goodman joins the production following his most recent award-winning performance in Chichester Festival Theatre’s The Resistible Rise Of Arturo Ui. Boasting numerous appearances on stage, many of which have earned the actor nominations for major theatre awards, Goodman’s credits include West End productions of Duet For One, Yes, Prime Minister, Fiddler On The Roof and Chicago, as well as regular credits with the Royal Shakespeare Company and at the National Theatre.

On screen Goodman has appeared in films Wonder, Taking Woodstock, The Damned United and Notting Hill, as well as television programmes including Yes, Prime Minister, Nixon’s The One and Murder In Suburbia.

Rattigan’s The Winslow Boy is based on the true story of a father’s fight to clear his son’s name when he is expelled from Naval College and convicted of theft, and is a timely tale about the battle between personal principles and an impenetrable establishment under the media spotlight.

The production will open the Old Vic theatre’s 2013 season when Trevor Nunn’s take on Cole Porter’s classic musical Kiss Me, Kate finishes its run on 2 March.
