Forthcoming new musical The Golden Voice has delayed performances at the Arts theatre as a result of investment problems.
The Darren Day-led production had been due to begin previews tonight, but producers today explained that, due to investment money from China being tied up in international banking red tape, the show will now preview from 17 July before opening to the press on 26 July.
General Manager Julian Stoneman explained: “New musicals all bring their own individual set of challenges, but now we have the green light from the producer’s international bank, the cast and crew are raring to go. The set is looking spectacular and I am truly excited about what the next couple of months will bring for Mr Fogarty’s production.”
The Golden Voice tells the story of fame hungry singer Mike Chariot (Day), who betrays his best friend and abandons his childhood sweetheart to win the nation’s favourite talent show. On realising he is merely a puppet for the record company and television executives, Chariot decides to disappear. Almost 20 years on, a wiser Chariot is back to make amends and help young singers and musicians achieve their dreams without having to enter television talent shows. However, his noble quest will bring him back in contact with his embittered former best friend Jim Ryan, who is looking for revenge.
Directed by Guy Retallack, the strictly limited season of singer-songwriter Nick Fogarty’s musical is still due to end on 31 August.
