American tap dancer Savion Glover – the man behind the tap-dancing feet of Mumble the penguin in the film Happy Feet – makes his UK debut at Sadler’s Wells on 13 June with his new show Live For London.
Glover is hailed by many as America’s greatest tap dancer. His style combines traditional tap with a modern twist – he is greatly influenced by the heavy bass beats of hip-hop music. Live For London sees Glover dance to a range of musical styles including jazz, classical, pop and contemporary, accompanied on stage by a live jazz band and his dance group Chapter IV.
New Jersey-born Glover made his tap-dancing Broadway debut in the appropriately-named show The Tap Dance Kid. He has returned to Broadway several times, starring in Black And Blue, Jelly’s Last Jam and Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk, for which he won a Tony Award in 1996. He has also worked on pop videos and films and is a series regular on US children’s television programme Sesame Street.
Live For London runs for four performances only from 13-16 June.
