A first folio of William Shakespeare’s plays discovered at the Saint-Omer library in France will be displayed at Shakespeare’s Globe next summer, which marks the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death.
The collection of Shakespeare’s plays, one of only around 230 of this first compendium of his works created in 1623, will be displayed at the iconic London venue for two months from July 2016. The Saint-Omer version stands out from its already rare counterparts as it also has stage directions scribbled amid the scripts.
The news of the Saint-Omer First Folio’s display comes as Shakespeare’s Globe plans its own on-site library which, once completed, will house its own First Folio and Quarto editions of Shakespeare’s work.
