Globe streams battlefield performance

You might not get the full effect of experiencing the same battlefield conditions as the performers bringing Shakespeare’s Globe’s trio of Henry VI plays to Monken Hadley Common, but audiences can now log on from home to watch the plays live this Saturday, 24 August.

The trilogy of history plays have been performed this summer at a quartet of War of the Roses battlefields featured in their plots: Towton, Tewkesbury, St Albans and, finally, Barnet, site of Edward IV’s most brutal defeat of the Earl of Warwick, which was fought at Monken Hadley Common.

Digital viewers can follow the productions on Arts Council England’s online service The Space between 12:00 and 22:00 in a programme presented by Globe regular Jamie Parker. Following the live broadcast, edited versions of the plays will be available at the website on demand.

The trio of shows, renamed Harry The Sixth, The Houses Of York And Lancaster and The True Tragedy Of The Duke Of York for these productions, can also be seen at Shakespeare’s Globe this summer, where they play alongside productions including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, Blue Stockings, The Lightning Child and King Lear.
