Shakespeare’s Globe is offering a range of extra family-friendly activities in its exhibition this half term, from 18 to 20 February.
Inspired by the story of Romeo And Juliet, which opens the theatre season at Shakespeare’s Globe in April, activities in the exhibition over half term include an art workshop where children can create designs for posy rings and handkerchiefs, the chance to meet the Globe’s musicians and create sound effects, storytelling sessions related to the themes in Romeo And Juliet and costume and stage combat demonstrations.
The ticket price includes entry to the permanent exhibition and all extra activities, plus a guided exploration of Shakespeare’s Globe. Sessions are repeated throughout each day, from 10:00 to 17:00.
The Globe is also offering families the chance to get free tickets to a special performance of Romeo And Juliet in March.
This particular production is created by the Globe’s Education department especially for Key Stage 3 school students and will play to some 10,000 young people over eight performances. The final performance, on Friday 13 March, is open to the general public and, thanks to sponsorship from Deutsche Bank, free tickets can be booked at the box office (020 7401 9919) from 25 February.
A second production of Shakespeare’s tragic romance runs in the main season from 23 April to 23 August. Public booking for all productions in the 2009 season at Shakespeare’s Globe opens on 14 February.
