Shakespeare’s Globe and Mark Rylance have announced All Places That The Eye Of Heaven Visits, a unique event at Westminster Abbey, in celebration of Shakespeare’s birthday.
On Friday 21 April and Saturday 22 April, Mark will join a company of 25 actors, as Shakespeare’s plays, poetry and song are brought to life in fifty fleeting and intimate encounters throughout the Abbey.
Steeped in more than a thousand years of history, Westminster Abbey has been the coronation church since 1066, and is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs, and the site of Shakespeare’s special monument in Poets’ Corner.
Audience members will have the opportunity to encounter historic figures such as Richard II and Henry V as Shakespeare’s iconic words are heard from beside their tombs.
Shakespeare’s birthday weekend will also include the 25th anniversary of the Globe and Mark’s annual Sonnet Walks: Sweet Love Remember’d, a walk through Shakespeare’s London brought alive by actors.
Conceived by Mark Rylance, Sonnet Walks: Sweet Love Remember’d will take place Saturday 22 April – Sunday 23 April, tracing routes through Westminster and the City and finishing at the Globe.
