Iain Glen has joined the cast of Hampstead theatre’s forthcoming drama Longing, starring in acclaimed novelist William Boyd’s debut play alongside the previously announced Tamsin Greig and John Sessions.
Boyd’s production will transport the venue back to 19th century Russia with a new adaptation of two short stories by Anton Chekhov. The trio will lead the Nina Raine-directed drama from 28 February (press night 7 March) until 13 April.
Glen was last seen on stage in fringe venue The Print Room’s critically acclaimed production of another of Chekhov’s work, Uncle Vanya. His many other stage credits include Hedda Gabler at the Almeida theatre, The Blue Room at the Donmar Warehouse and A Streetcar Named Desire at the National Theatre. In 2010 the multi-talented actor also starred in and directed Ghosts at the Duchess theatre.
An equally well-known face on screen as he is on stage, Glen boasts numerous appearances in successful series including Spooks, The Diary Of Anne Frank, Downton Abbey, Games Of Thrones and, most recently, BBC drama Prisoners’ Wives.
Joining the high profile leading cast in Longing are Alan Cox, Tom Georgeson, Natasha Little, Eve Ponsonby, William Postlethwaite, Mary Roscoe and Catrin Stewart.
The production follows Hampstead Theatre Downstairs transfer Di And Viv And Rose, which opens to the press tonight and features a similarly starry leading trio with Tamzin Outhwaite, Anna Maxwell Martin and Gina McKee in the title roles.
