Musical theatre star Alex Gaumond, Broadway actress Kristen Beth Williams and Clive Hayward will join the previously announced Gavin Lee in hit musical Top Hat from 5 February.
Best known for playing Galileo in long-running Queen musical We Will Rock You, Gaumond, who will play Alberto Beddini in the hit 1930s musical, was last seen on the West End stage in Legally Blonde The Musical, a role for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award. A regular on the West End stage, Gaumond’s other theatre credits include Desperately Seeking Susan, Sunday In The Park With George and The Full Monty.
Last seen on the London stage in political comedy Yes, Prime Minister at the Trafalgar Studios, Hayward, who takes over from Martin Ball as Horace Hardwick in the production, has previously appeared on stage in the David Tennant-led production of Much Ado About Nothing at the Wyndham’s theatre and National Theatre production Earthquakes In London.
The third actress to take on the role of Dale Tremont, Williams joins the musical’s cast following her recent appearance in Nice Work If You Can Get It on Broadway. The actress’ previous Broadway credits include Anything Goes and Promises, Promises.
The trio will join musical theatre veteran Lee, who will take over from leading man Tom Chambers from 5 February, and existing cast members Vivian Parry and Stephen Boswell, who will continue in their roles as Madge Hardwick and Bates.
Top Hat, which tells the tale of a famous American tap dancer who falls in love with the girl of his dreams before chasing her across Europe in an attempt to win her heart, is booking at the Aldwych theatre until 27 April 2014.
