Gary Watson will take over the role of Nick Massi in the West End production of Jersey Boys as the hit musical prepares to celebrate its seventh birthday in March.
Replacing Matt Nalton from 10 March, Watson will join Michael Watson, Edd Post and Jon Boydon as his fellow band members in the long-running show about the rise to fame of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
The actor, whose last London stage outing saw him appear opposite original West End Frankie Valli, Ryan Molloy, in Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’Be at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, adds Jersey Boys to the string of musical theatre credits he has gathered throughout his career.
Watson has previously appeared in fellow Olivier Award-winning hits A Chorus Line, Matilda The Musical and Les Misérables. On screen, his credits include Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming take on Cinderella and Victoria Wood’s That Day We Sang.
Joining Watson in Jersey Boys are a host of other newcomers including Matthew Cutts, Stuart Dawes, Nicky Griffiths, Joseph Peters, Chris Stoddart and Helen Ternent, while Simon Adkins, who originated the role of Bob Crewe in the London production, will return to the show.
The hit musical, which has been seen by more than 20 million people worldwide since its premiere in 2008, will celebrate its seventh anniversary in London on 18 March.
The story of four blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks and how they became one of the biggest American pop bands of the 1960s is packed full of Frankie Valli and the Four Season’s greatest hits including Beggin’, Sherry, Walk Like A Man, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Bye Bye Baby, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and 1963 (Oh What A Night).
