It may be the most vibrant and colourful evening in the UK theatre diary, but we don’t think we’ve ever seen the Olivier Awards with MasterCard captured quite so strikingly than in photographer David Levene’s stunning set of black and white photographs.
Capturing a world behind the scenes not usually seen by the general public under the revealing filter of monochrome, each winner’s emotions are seemingly heightened, each smile more knowing and each laugh more joyous.
From Lesley Manville and Rory Kinnear sharing a private moment to celebrate their success and Bernadette Peters composing herself in the wings before her performance on the stage to Best Actress in a Musical Award winner Zrinka Cvitešić’s quiet moment of calm before facing the world’s press and a laughing Gemma Arterton backstage, each image paints a vivid picture of the buzz and excitement unseen from the auditorium.
Don’t forget, you can see what happened on the other side of the Royal Opera House’s curtain by catching highlights from the ceremony on ITV Player.
