Michael Grandage Company have announced full casting for their upcoming production of Martin McDonagh’s The Lieutenant Of Inishmore, which will star Poldark’s Aidan Turner as the deranged terrorist Mad Padraic.

Joining Turner in an all-Irish cast is actress Charlie Murphy, who has starred in RTE drama Love/Hate and the BBC’s Peaky Blinders. The cast also includes Denis Conway (The Walworth Farce, National Theatre) as Donny; Will Irvine (The Nether, Royal Court) as Christy; Brian Martin (Boudica, Shakespeare’s Globe) as James; Daryl McCormack as Brendan; Julian Moore-Cook (Benidorm regular Callum) as Joey; and Chris Walley as Davey.

The Lieutenant Of Inishmore is McDonagh’s hilarious farce and satire on terrorism. Who knocked Mad Padraic’s cat over on a lonely road on the island of Inishmore and was it an accident? He’ll want to know when he gets back from a stint of torture and chip-shop bombing in Northern Ireland: he loves that cat more than life itself.

Turner will portray Padraic in the production, with the first full image of him in the imposing role also released.

The Lieutenant Of Inishmore will open at the Noël Coward Theatre on 4 July. It joins Grandage’s production of John Logan’s Red in the West End, with the latter starring Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch and opening at Wyndham’s Theatre on 15 May.

Tickets are available for both productions through the Delfont Macinktosh website.
