Full casting for Tricycle autumn

First Published 17 July 2014, Last Updated 17 July 2014

Full casting has been announced for two of the Tricycle Theatre’s forthcoming productions, with Steven Elliot joining Alex Ferns and Eugene O’Hare in True West and Martina Laird, Tanya Moodie and Clare Perkins set to star in The House That Will Not Stand.

True West, which kicks off the Tricycle Theatre’s autumn season from 4 September to 4 October, will see Elliot and Barbara Rafferty join the previously announced Ferns and O’Hare. Elliot returns to the London stage following recent turns in King Lear at the Almeida Theatre and the National Theatre’s production of Frankenstein, while Rafferty, best known for her long-running role in Scottish sitcom Rab C Nesbitt, has previously appeared on the London stage in Blood Wedding at the Donmar Warehouse.

Written by Sam Shepard and directed by Philip Breen, True West charts the story of two brothers – one a screenwriter, the other a petty thief – who become embroiled in a disagreement about whose idea would be best made into a Hollywood movie. When forced to work together to secure the deal, mistrust and jealousy begin to bubble under the surface and their own flaws threaten to get in the way.

Following the production from 9 October to 22 November, The House That Will Not Stand will see Laird, Moodie and Perkins take to the Tricycle Theatre’s stage in Marcus Gardley’s bewitching new drama of desire, jealousy and murder.

Casualty star Laird, whose stage credits include Moon On A Rainbow Shawl at the National Theatre, will take on the role of Beatrice, a woman who has become one of the city’s most wealthy female inhabitants through her relationship with a rich white man in the 1836 New Orleans-set drama.

She is joined by Moodie, who was last seen on the London stage in the West End production of Fences, and EastEnders’ Perkins, who will take to the stage in the Almeida Theatre’s production of Little Revolution prior to her performance at the Kilburn venue.

Joining the trio are Ronke Adekoluejo, who can currently be seen in The Colby Sisters Of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the venue, Ayesha Antoine, last seen in We Are Proud To Present… at the Bush Theatre, and Michele Austin, whose credits include Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre hit To Kill A Mockingbird.

Completing the cast of the production, which charts the story of a household that turns on each other in the face of societal changes and racial divides, are Danusia Samal (Circles, Tricycle Theatre) and Paul Shelley (Moonlight, Donmar Warehouse).

The productions are next in line to play at the Tricycle Theatre following the current run of Adam Bock’s new play The Colby Sisters Of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and The Kilburn Passion, which returns to the venue from 5 to 9 August.
