Full casting has been announced for Simon Stephens’ explosive new version of Anton Chekhov’s classic play, The Seagull, which will star Lesley Sharp as Irina Arkadina.

Lloyd Cooney (The Plough And The Stars, National Theatre) will play Jacob, with Nicholas Gleaves (The Father, West End) cast as Boris Trigorin, Lloyd Hutchinson (Salome, National Theatre) as Leo, and Raphael Sowole (Pygmalion, Headlong UK tour) as Simeon. They join the previously announced Adelayo Adedayo, Michele Austin, Paul Higgins, Sharp, Cherrelle Skeete, Nicolas Tennant and Brian Vernel.

Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time) vivaciously revives Chekhov’s story of love, art, jealousy and self-destruction in this new version, which plays at the Lyric Hammersmith from Tuesday 3 October – Saturday 4 November.

Leant vibrant new life in a dynamic new version directed by Artistic Director Sean Holmes, The Seagull explores the fine margins between the transcendence and destructiveness of love, playing with the ridiculous and profound aspects of both.

And with unrequited love, creative jealousy, guns, vodka and art in the mix, the burning need to create – and crush creation – prevails throughout this classic play.
