Shakespeare In Love’s Lucy Briggs-Owen has joined the cast of the Rob Brydon-led Future Conditional, which will make its world premiere at The Old Vic this September.
Tackling the topical subject of how the educational system works in modern Britain, Tamsin Oglesby’s “boisterously funny new play” will open director Matthew Warchus’ inaugural season as Artistic Director with an ambitious, large cast of 23 young performers joining its star Brydon.
A number of the performers announced as joining the company are already well known faces on the London stage, with RSC regular Briggs-Owen returning to The Old Vic Theatre following 2013’s Fortune’s Fool.
Joining her is Ben Lloyd-Hughes, who appeared in Michael Grandage’s West End production of Henry V and in the Royal Court Theatre’s Jumpy, Posh star Joshua McGuire, who was last seen in The Ruling Class at the Trafalgar Studios, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’s Alex Clatworthy.
The cast will play a myriad of characters between them, as Future Conditional takes a topical look at the education system through everyone from parents to teachers, as well Alia, a prodigiously clever young Pakistani refugee who is shaking things up.
Completing the company are Matthew Aubrey, Louisa Beadel, Peta Cornish, Natasha Cottriall, Amy Dawson, Jennifer English, Sam Jenkins-Shaw, Natalie Klamar, Carla Langley, Louis Martin, Sukh Ojla, Bill Partfitt, Nikki Patel, Howard Perret, Sandra Reid, Sofia Stuart, Eleanor Sutton, Brian Vernel and Carmen Vandenberg, many of whom will make their professional London stage debuts in the production.
Future Conditional arrives at The Old Vic from 1 September and plays as part of an exciting first season from the Matilda The Musical director, who takes over at the helm from Kevin Spacey this autumn.
