London stage regulars Jonathan Cake, Tim McMullan, Lloyd Hutchinson and Fiona Glascott are to join Lisa Dillon and Tom Hollander in A Flea In Her Ear, which plays at the Old Vic from 4 December (press night 14 December).
Georges Feydeau’s 1907 farce, translated by John Mortimer, centres on the romantic entanglements and farcical goings-on precipitated by Raymonde’s (Dillon) suspicion that her husband Victor (Hollander) is having an affair.
Cake, who joins the central duo as Tournel, played the title role in Coriolanus at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2006. A Royal Shakespeare Company regular, he has appeared on Broadway and has screen credits including First Night, Extras and Brideshead Revisited.
McMullan (Etienne) was last seen in The Misanthrope in the West End. His numerous appearances at the National Theatre include Present Laughter, Coram Boy, The Alchemist and His Dark Materials, while he has also been seen in The Deep Blue Sea in the West End. His films include The Queen and Shakespeare In Love.
Hutchinson is another regular at the National Theatre, where he starred with McMullan in Once In A Lifetime. Last year he returned to the National in Matt Charman’s The Observer and was seen at the Donmar Warehouse in Life Is A Dream.
Glascott, who plays Raymonde’s best friend Lucienne, has credits including The Country Wife at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Whipping It Up at the Bush theatre and Hitchcock Blonde at the Royal Court.
They are joined in Richard Eyre’s production by Oliver Cotton, Freddie Fox, Di Botcher, John Marquez, William Maxwell, Rebecca Night, Maggie Service and Walter Van Dyk.
A Flea In Her Ear arrives at the Old Vic following Noël Coward’s Design For Living, also starring Dillon, which ends its run on 27 November.
