The full casting has been announced this morning for Conor McPherson’s new adaption of Uncle Vanya, and it’s full of big names!
Rosalind Eleazar, Aimee Lou Wood, Anna Calder-Marshall, Dearbhla Molloy, Peter Wight and Ciarán Hinds will join the previously announced Toby Jones (Detectorists, Captain America) as Vanya and Richard Armitage (The Crucible) as Astrov at the Harold Pinter Theatre in January next year.
Rosalind Eleazar plays Kate in ITV’s Deep Water alongside Anna Friel and Sinead Keenan, but has also acted in Harlots and the BBC mini-series of Howards End. You’ll recognise Aimee Lou Wood from Netflix’s recent hit series Sex Education.
Anna Calder-Marshall is an Emmy Award-winner known for LOVE, Evening at the Talk House and Male of the Species. The fantastic Dearbhla Molloy has been nominated for both Olivier and Tony awards and starred in The Ferryman, Dancing at Lughnasa and Juno and the Paycock.
Peter Wight recently starred alongside Zoë Wanamaker in Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party and in Robert Icke’s very starry cast of Hamlet alongside Andrew Scott and Juliet Stevenson.

Ciarán Hinds has been seen on stage recently in Translations and Girl from the North Country, but you’ll also know him from his versatile on-screen career, with credits such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and as Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones.
In the depths of summer, Sonya and her Uncle Vanya pass the time on their falling-down estate in rural obscurity. Their only visitor is the local Doctor Astrov.
But when Sonya’s father returns unannounced with Yelena, his beautiful young new wife, he declares his intention to sell the house. While Vanya and Astrov appear to fall under her charms, Sonya is less convinced.
Soon, niceties soon begin to drop and repressed feelings come to the surface.
This tale of love, loss and family tensions is brought to new life with Conor McPherson and with two British acting greats at the helm, and a whole cast of seasoned actors, this production is sure to bring new poignancy to the sad and dramatic tale.
