Presenter, actor and Twitter hero Stephen Fry will be exercising his thespianic muscles once more this summer when he joins Mark Rylance at Shakespeare’s Globe.
The QI host will don the yellow stockings of Malvolio in a production of Twelfth Night that will also star Samuel Barnett and Johnny Flynn.
The revival of the much-acclaimed production of 2002 will also welcome original performers Liam Brennan and Peter Hamilton Dyer back to play the roles of Orsino and Feste, while Globe regular Colin Hurley will play Sir Toby Belch.
Rarely seen on the London stage, Fry is better known for his screen work which includes Sherlock Holmes II, Gosford Park, Wilde, The Borrowers, Blackadder and Jeeves And Wooster, in which, as in Twelfth Night, he famously played a member of the serving staff.
Twelfth Night, which plays at Shakespeare’s Globe between 22 September and 14 October, is part of a packed season at the Bankside venue, which also includes the Globe To Globe season which sees 37 international companies performing every one of Shakespeare’s plays in a different language.
