West End star Maria Friedman will bring her solo show Maria Friedman: Rearranged to Trafalgar Studio 1 this Christmas, for 25 performances only, from 27 November to 4 January (press night 4 December).
The show, which first ran at the Menier Chocolate Factory in March this year, sees Friedman accompanied by an 11-piece band as she performs new arrangements of songs by renowned composers including Jerry Herman, Michel Legrand, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. The programme at Trafalgar Studios promises to include many of the numbers from the Menier show, along with some new additions.
Friedman is one of the West End’s most respected performers, with numerous musical theatre credits including Chicago, Sunday In The Park With George, Lady In The Dark, The Woman In White and Sweeney Todd. She has twice been named Best Actress in a Musical at the Laurence Olivier Awards, for Passion in 1997 and Ragtime in 2004. Her first solo show in London, By Special Arrangement at the Donmar Warehouse in 1995, also won her a Laurence Olivier Award, for Best Entertainment.
Maria Friedman: Rearranged will share the programming at Trafalgar Studio 1 with children’s show Horrid Henry – Live And Horrid!, which runs from 22 November to 11 January. Friedman’s show is scheduled for 20:30/21:00 on weekdays and Saturdays, while Horrid Henry will give daytime and early evening performances.
Both shows fill the gap left by the early closure of Andrew Upton’s new play Riflemind, which was initially scheduled to remain at Trafalgar Studio 1 until January but closed on 25 October.
