The first project of the newly formed Classic Play Reading Company, Terence Rattigan’s final play Cause Célèbre will be read via Zoom this coming Wednesday 23 September at 7pm.
The play – which began life as a radio play – is based on the real-life murder of Francis Rattenbury and the trial of his wife, Alma and her lover George Wood.
The company is the creation of actor and director Ben Stock and director and casting director Andrew Lynford and aims to bring lesser-known plays by well-known authors to life. Future projects include a reading of a seldom performed Noël Coward play.
The cast for Cause Célèbre is lead by Jessica Martin (Ballroom; Me And My Girl) as Alma, Kit Esuruoso (West Side Story; Quantum) as George and Julia Hills (Calendar girls, The Musical; The Mirror Crack’d) as Mrs Davenport.
The cast is completed by John Conroy (My Fair Lady; Half A Sixpence), Richard Gibson (Allo Allo; The Cherry Orchard), Jeremy Rose (Rags; Tonight At 8.30), Nicola Blackman (Thoroughly Modern Millie; The Mousetrap), Helen Power (Sunset Boulevard; Noël and Gertie), Josh Andrews (The Book Of Mormon; 42nd Street), Jill Myers, James Horne, Jarren Dalmeda, Sharon Eckman, Alex Scott Fairley, Charlie Kristensen, Josh Jones and Theo Birakos.
The reading will take place at 7pm on Wednesday 23 September at 7pm.
