Hannah-Jane Fox, the actress best known for creating the role of Scaramouche in We Will Rock You, is to return to the stage in May to lead the Union theatre revival of Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’Be.

Fox, who starred in the long-running Queen musical for four years before taking a break from Theatreland to have children, is to play Lil in the East End-set tale of gamblers, spivs, prostitutes, Teddy boys and some less-than-honest coppers.

The musical, which features music by Oliver! composer Lionel Bart, will play at the Union theatre from 10 May to 4 June, where it will be directed by Phil Willmott, the critic, playwright and director whose productions include Fame, Naked Boys Singing, Dirty White Boy and I Love You You’re Perfect Now Change in addition to his work with The Steam Industry, the theatre company he founded and of which he is Artistic Director.

The revival of Fings Ain’t Wot They Used T’Be follows another musical revival at the Southwark venue, Stephen Schwartz’s Godspell, which plays from 13 April until 7 May.

In a busy spring for the Union, its hit all-male production of Iolanthe is also currently playing at Wilton’s Music Hall.
