Ramin Karimloo, who has played the Phantom Of The Opera in the West End both in the original musical and in Love Never Dies, is to join the cast of Les Misérables next month.
The former Olivier Award nominee will replace Alfie Boe in the lead role of Jean Valjean from 29 November and will stay with the show until 3 March 2012.
Karimloo’s casting in the West End’s longest running musical marks his return to the French revolutionary tale, in which he previously played the part of rebellious student leader Enjolras.
Karimloo joins a cast that also includes Hadley Fraser, Caroline Sheen, Alexia Khadime, Craig Mather, Cameron Blakely, Katy Secombe, Liam Tamne and Lisa-Anne Wood.
Les Misérables, which premiered at the Barbican in 1985, tells the story of a former convict’s attempt to rebuild his life amid the constant hounding of an obsessed policeman, in a France on the brink of revolution. It has been seen by nearly 60 million theatregoers in 42 countries across the globe.
