The Menier Chocolate Factory’s production of Forbidden Broadway will transfer to the West End this autumn after Nigel Harman’s production of Rabbit Hole starring Joanne Froggatt is forced to postpone its forthcoming run.
Playing a limited 11-week season at the Vaudeville Theatre from 9 September (press night 15 September) to 22 November, Forbidden Broadway is the hugely popular musical revue that takes an affectionate poke at some of the West End and Broadway’s most-loved productions.
Anna-Jane Casey, Damian Humbley and Ben Lewis will reprise their roles in the production and will be joined by YouTube sensation Christina Bianco, who will replace Sophie-Louise Dann for the production’s West End transfer.
The Book Of Mormon, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Wicked, Miss Saigon and Matilda The Musical are among the shows that come under hilarious scrutiny in the acclaimed production that was deemed “the funniest show in London” by Time Out when it opened at the London Bridge venue in June.
The production, which will play at the Menier Chocolate Factory until 30 August before bringing its side-splitting contents, including new material, to the West End, is the London Bridge venue’s first transfer since Maria Friedman’s multi Olivier Award-winning hit Merrily We Roll Along in 2013.
David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play Rabbit Hole, which was due to run at the Vaudeville Theatre from 11 September to 22 November, has been postponed due to a late shift in schedules.
The producers remain committed to bringing the tale about the bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places to the West End and hope to announce new run dates in due course.
