A new soccer-based show, Who Ate All The Pies?, is to be staged at the Tristan Bates theatre from 9 to 26 June to coincide with the upcoming global tournament.
Who Ate All The Pies? is set in the world of City Football Club, where Sharon honours the dying wish of her City-mad Dad by taking his season ticket. Will City make it through a turbulent season? Will Sharon grow to understand the passion that binds the fans together? Will she forgive her father for all the missed Saturday afternoons? All is explained in this musical which features characters including a northern football manager, a saucy wag, a sly agent, a millionaire owner and, of course, an £18 million footballer.
Who Ate All The Pies? is written by the team of Jimmy Jewell, who, appropriately, shares his name with a former Norwich City manager, and Crystal Palace fan Nick Stimson.
In addition to their footballing links, Jewell is a composer, conductor, performer and producer, while Stimson is a playwright and Associate Director of the Theatre Royal, Plymouth. The pair previously collaborated on NHS The Musical and Peter Pan.
To fit around the myriad football matches of the world cup, which kicks off on 11 June and finishes on 11 July, performances of Who Ate All The Pies? will be staged at 13:30, 15:45, 19:30 and 21:15, giving sports fans ample opportunity to take in the show.
This is not the first theatrical adjustment made due to world cup football; earlier in the year it was announced that Roy Williams’s Sucker Punch at the Royal Court would alter its press night so as not to clash with England’s group stage match against Algeria on 18 June.
