Kate Fleetwood and Denise Gough are to star in Nancy Harris’s Our New Girl at the Bush theatre from 12 January.
Described as a ‘startling psychological drama about the darker side of parenthood’, Our New Girl sees Fleetwood play pregnant wife Hazel Robinson, whose perfect London home isn’t quite as it seems. With her husband away, a failing business to deal with and a problem son, Hazel employs professional nanny Annie (Gough) and soon finds her home under the shadow of a perfect stranger.
London stage regular Fleetwood has been seen in London Road at the National Theatre, Life Is A Dream and Hecuba at the Donmar Warehouse and several productions for the RSC. She also played Lady Macbeth in the multi-award-winning Macbeth, directed by her husband Rupert Goold, in the West End and on Broadway.
Irish actress Gough has stage credits including The Painter at the Arcola theatre and Six Characters In Search Of An Author at the Gielgud theatre.
The pair is joined by Mark Bazeley, as Hazel’s husband Richard, and Jude Willoughby and Jonathan Teale who alternate in the role of son Daniel.
Directed by Charlotte Gwinner, Our New Girl is the last production programmed by outgoing Artistic Director Josie Rourke, who becomes Artistic Director of the Donmar Warehouse in January. She is replaced at the Bush theatre by Madani Younis.
