The first image of Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harington playing the title role in Jamie Lloyd’s London theatre production of Doctor Faustus has been released and, well, it’s striking.
The single image of the show currently in previews at the Duke of York’s Theatre shows the actor, best known for playing Jon Snow in the HBO drama, covered in more blood than you might expect from, well, Game Of Thrones.

The new version of Christopher Marlowe’s classic, which features new sections from playwright Colin Teevan, finds Harington playing the titular dabbler in black magic who conjures the demonic Mephistopheles. A simple trade sees Faustus swap his soul for the promise of fame, wealth and power, in this case thrusting him into the world of celebrity as a superstar magician.
Quite where the fountain of blood comes in we don’t yet know, but we’re eager to find out.
If that image is not enough to satiate your eagerness for all things Faustus, the company has released a teaser video filmed during technical rehearsals for the production that also stars Jenna Russell, Jade Anouka and Forbes Masson.
Doctor Faustus runs at Duke of York’s Theatre until 25 June. You can book tickets through us here.
