It’s just what you need to cheer up a cloudy March Monday in London, the pizzazz and sparkle of the French Riviera courtesy of the capital’s latest tune-filled treat Dirty Rotten Scoundrels The Musical.
The tale of conniving conmen – is there any other kind? – opens at the Savoy theatre later this week. It’s story, based on the 1988 film starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, is one of clashing crooks who realise the sunny French seaside is not big enough for both of them. To settle their differences, the dapper and sophisticated Lawrence Jameson goes head to head with the brasher, less refined Freddy Benson. Whoever wins the affections of millionaire heiress Christine Colgate, wins the bet.
With direction and choreography by Legally Blonde The Musical’s Jerry Mitchell and a cast boasting twice Olivier Award-winner Robert Lindsay, this year’s Olivier Award nominee Katherine Kingsley, acclaimed stage regulars Samantha Bond and John Marquez, and former One Man, Two Guvnors leading man Rufus Hound, the production is as anticipated as the start of spring.
