Great Scott… The highly anticipated premiere of Back To The Future – The Musical will begin performances from 20 August at the Adelphi Theatre and today, we’ve got a sneak peak at rehearsal images which have got us even more pumped! Check them out…
Based on the cult 1985 movie starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, Back To The Future – The Musical follows the life of Marty McFly, a teenager who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his friend, the eccentric and enthusiastic Dr Emmett Brown.
Marty McFly is a rock ‘n’ roll high school student who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr Emmett Brown, also known as “Doc”. Before Marty can return to 1985, he’s determined to ensure his high school-aged parents fall in love in order to save his own existence.
Yes, it’s as whacky and brilliant as it sounds and we cannot wait for it to be brought to life on stage in the West End after it received incredible reviews from critics and the public alike after opening at the Manchester Opera House in March 2o20.
The movie-turned-musical is directed by Tony Award-winning director John Rando alongside the multi Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team of Tim Hatley (set and costume design), lighting design by Tim Lutkin, lighting consultant Hugh Vanstone, Gareth Owen (sound) and Finn Ross (video), with choreography by Chris Bailey, musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow and Illusions by Chris Fisher. Orchestrations are by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, with dance arrangements by David Chase.
The cast will be led by Roger Bart (Broadway – The Producers, Netflix’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events and Frankie) and Olly Dobson (West End – Bat Out Of Hell, The Selfish Giant, Matilda The Musical) in the roles of Dr Emmett Brown and Marty McFly respectively.
And, if you loved the music from the movie, you’ll be pleased to know that alongside new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard, the show will also feature additional songs from the film including The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode.
