Jez Butterworth’s smash-hit new play The Ferryman will play its final West End performance on Saturday 19 May 2018 prior to a Broadway transfer, it has been confirmed.
Directed by Sam Mendes, The Ferryman originally opened at the Royal Court last year, becoming the fastest-selling show in the theatre’s history before moving to the Gielgud Theatre in June 2017, where it has gone on to garner further critical and audience acclaim. More than 350,000 people will have seen the production during its year long run of 410 performances.
The Broadway production of the show will open at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in October 2018. Casting will be announced at a later date.
The current company of The Ferryman includes Rosalie Craig (As You Like It, The Threepenny Opera and London Road, National Theatre) in the role of Caitlin Carney, Owen McDonnell (Single-Handed, RTÉ/ITV) playing Quinn Carney, and Justin Edwards (The Thick Of It, BBC) as Tom Kettle.
Set in Rural Derry, 1981, The Ferryman the Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead, and the atmosphere is a jovial one. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor, and dark secrets will be unearthed.
