Due to popular demand, Jez Butterworth’s emphatically lauded play The Ferryman, directed by Sam Mendes, will once again extend its West End run at the Gielgud Theatre into May 2018.
The producers of The Ferryman, Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street Productions, announced this morning that Butterworth’s play will extend its booking period until 19 May 2018, with tickets for the new booking period now on sale. Full casting for this extension will be confirmed soon.
The Ferryman is set in Rural Derry in 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead, and the atmosphere is a jovial one. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor, and dark secrets will be unearthed.

Originally starring Paddy Considine, whose role was assumed by Will Houston earlier this month, The Ferryman won widespread critical acclaim when it opened at the Royal Court earlier this year, and soon became the fastest selling show in the theatre’s history.
This phenomenal success has continued at the Gielgud Theatre upon its West End transfer, where it has been playing to sold-out houses and widespread acclaim.
