ABBA spectacular Mamma Mia! returned #BackOnStage last week and Ruth and I were lucky enough to go along and experience the party.
The iconic jukebox musical has been welcoming audiences to the West End for over twenty years and is showing no signs of stopping. Packed with iconic songs from the much-loved ABBA alongside a beautiful story of romance and discovery and countless moments of hilarity, it was no surprise to see several standing ovations throughout the performance.
The curtain call certainly had us up on our feet, dancing along and soaking in the incredible atmosphere from the audience and the unmatched talent on stage. Check it out…
Set in Greece, the story follows a young girl named Sophie who, as she preps for her wedding, is on a mission to track down her father. She snoops into her mother Donna’s diary and invites three potential suspects from her past to the wedding. When all three show up on the eve of the wedding, she is shocked (as is her Mother) but goes on a journey to discover which one could be her father. Who will walk her down the aisle and will her mother rekindle romance with any of them? You’ll just have to book tickets to find out 🙂
While Ruth and I have seen the film countless times, it was our first time seeing the show and we loved every second of it. From Dancing Queen and Money Money Money to the legendary party-starter, Mamma Mia! the show is filled with so many famous songs that ooze feel-good vibes, as do the spectacular, glittery costumes. The set really transports you to a sun-soaked Greece and the party vibes really do wonders for anyone looking for some escapism.
We left the theatre on hump day feeling happy and re-energised. Mamma Mia! is a real confirmation of how much goodness live theatre brings to our life and we can’t wait to return with our loved ones and experience it all over again.
