Family-friendly fun for Greenwich+Docklands

First Published 28 May 2015, Last Updated 28 May 2015

Children and their families are being asked to help free a modern princess in The Secret Princess Of Severndroog, an interactive fairytale playing as part of this summer’s Greenwich+Docklands International Festival.

Against the atmospheric backdrop of Severndroog Castle in Oxleas Woods, the enchanting promenade production from acclaimed site specific theatre company Look Left Look Right is suitable for ages five to 11-years-old and plays from 2 to 5 July.

Billed as “A magical woodland adventure”, the show requires the audience’s assistance to free the damsel from a spell that has her locked up in a castle.

The 21st century fairytale is just one of the family-friendly events on offer during the festival. At the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from 3 to 5 July, Australian children’s theatre company Polyglot presents giant participatory artwork Tangle, while outdoor performance company Nutkhut combines dance, storytelling and shadow puppetry in Navrattan.

Other festival highlights include the Greenwich Fair (27 and 28 June). Held at the Old Royal Naval College, the two-day event will feature a musical performance filled with water, juggling to rock and roll tracks, explosive acrobatics and the behind-the-scenes story of a fairground carousel.

The Greenwich+Docklands International Festival will run from 26 June to 5 July and kicks off with Kori Kori, an opening spectacle of colour, music and passion led by a chorus of 18 actors and three musicians.

The majority of the festival’s offerings are free but some shows, including The Secret Princess Of Severndroog, are ticketed. For a full list of events and details on how to book, visit the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival’s website.
