Penguins, pirates and stick men will be entertaining families in a giant upside down purple cow this summer as part of the E4 Udderbelly season on the South Bank.
Following the inaugural season last year, London’s most unusual venue is back this summer from 15 May to 18 July, hosting a range of comedy, music, dance, poetry and spoken word events in a 400 seat theatre inside the belly of an enormous inflatable cow marooned outside the Southbank Centre.
This year’s programme of family events includes: Penguin (22 & 23 May), an adaptation of Polly Dunbar’s award-winning book; a play with music based on Lewis Carroll’s famous children’s story Alice In Wonderland (20 June); and puppetry show Stick Man Live On Stage (15 to 18 July).
CBBC’s Dan and Jeff will be popping in on 30 May with their condensed jokefest Potted Pirates, while comedian Andrew Clover will be making kids laugh with My Almost Famous Story Show on 5 to 6 June.
Other events aimed at all the family include Controlled Falling Project (29 May to 10 June), an experimental circus show from Australia, and Brazil Brazil! (11 June to 18 July), a South American-inspired festival featuring capoeira, acrobatics, football skills and samba.
Younger children will be entertained by The Lost Voice (31 May to 6 June), a beatboxing show for four to eight year olds which is followed by a free kids’ workshop.
The E4 Udderbelly also features plenty of events to keep parents entertained. For the full programme and details of how to book, visit the Southbank Centre website.
