Two of London’s most popular productions, family drama War Horse and hit Brit musical Billy Elliot, have announced extensions to their Theatreland runs.
War Horse will gallop into the new year at the New London theatre, where it is now booking until 20 October 2012, while Billy Elliot fans will be pirouetting with delight at the news that the Elton John-scored production has released 630,000 new tickets, taking its run at the Victoria Palace to 15 December 2012.
Inspired by Michael Morpurgo’s book, War Horse tells the story of young Albert, who, when his horse is sold to the cavalry at the start of the First World War, embarks on a mission to find him amid the battlefields of France.
Originally staged at the National Theatre, War Horse is famed for its Olivier Award-winning design and puppetry that brings life-sized horses, and the reality of war, to the London stage.
Based on the hugely successful British film, Billy Elliot The Musical is set amid the miners’ strikes of the 1980s, where a young boy discovers a talent for dance while living in a community happier to see boys boxing.
Now a hit across the globe, Billy Elliot The Musical has been seen by nearly 7 million people worldwide, including 3.3 million in the West End.
