Matilda The Musical has announced BBC Radio 2’s Sir Terry Wogan will host a special gala performance of the hit family show this autumn in aid of BBC Children In Need.
The RSC’s acclaimed production, which today also revealed its West End run has been extended at the Cambridge Theatre until 20 December 2015, will host the most famous bear in television, Pudsey, and a host of celebrity friends on 4 November.
The special evening’s performance will help raise funds for the children’s charity that works with disadvantaged young people across the UK. Public tickets are available from £20 to £100 with at least 50% of the proceeds going to BBC Children In Need.
Speaking about the gala, the RSC’s Executive Director Catherine Mallyon promised the evening would be “magical”, saying: “We are thrilled that our wonderful Matilda The Musical will be playing a part in this year’s BBC Children In Need Appeal. Matilda’s story resonates so strongly with the vision of this annual fund raising event, so it is great that we can help support its important work.”
Featuring wickedly funny songs by Tim Minchin and a book by acclaimed playwright Dennis Kelly, Matilda The Musical swept the board at the 2012 Olivier Awards with MasterCard following its London premiere in autumn 2011.
More than 1.5 million people have since been entertained by the talented cast of youngsters – not to forget the ever-so-slightly older adult performers– at the Cambridge Theatre, who together bring to life Roald Dahl’s magical story of a neglected girl who develops special powers.

Tickets for the new booking period, which takes the show from May 2015 to the end of the year, will go on sale on 15 September.
