The Royal Opera House’s week-long family event Sounding Out returns this year from 1 to 4 June offering a free open day, a range of workshops and a family performance.
Sounding Out commences on Tuesday 1 June with a free family open day from 12:00 to 16:00. Visitors can have a go playing an orchestral instrument, learn from a Royal Ballet dancer, watch demonstrations from the Royal Opera House’s production departments and have a go at designing sets and costumes. A mystery trail around the building completes the day.
While tickets for the open day are free, the rest of the week features a range of fun activities and hands-on workshops priced at £5 for adults, £3 for under 16s. Led by Royal Opera House professionals, these creative workshops include the chance to create your own shadow puppets, see how a set is designed, compose a piece of music, learn how a story is told through music and dance, watch a fight specialist create a fight scene and discover the art of storytelling.
Sounding Out concludes on Saturday 5 June with a special family performance composed by Helen Porter featuring the set designs and shadow puppetry created by participants during the week’s workshops.
All activities and workshops are suitable for ages seven and over, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
