A new production of Stephen Adly Guirgis’s Jesus Hopped The A Train will be performed by a cast of ex-prisoners and professional actors at Trafalgar Studio 2 from 6 to 24 April (press night 7 April).

Produced by Synergy Theatre Project, Guirgis’s play is set in the notorious Rikers Island prison, New York, and examines questions of faith and morality through the stories of two prisoners who are wrestling with God, their demons and a brutal system which shows no mercy.

Synergy Theatre Project is a company dedicated to the rehabilitation of prisoners and ex-offenders which delivers education projects for young people and new writing initiatives to develop playwrights from prison.

The cast of ex-prisoners and professional actors comprises Ricky Copp, Ricky Fearon, Denise Gough, Theo Jones and Dominic Taylor. They are directed by Synergy Theatre Project Artistic Director Esther Baker.
