It’s a hit – and we certainly do know it! The fearless and fabulous musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is celebrating its one-year West End birthday today (6 November). And its present to everybody? An extended booking period at the Apollo Theatre through to 28 September 2019.
Having originally opened at the Sheffield Crucible in 2017, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’s fairytale shows no signs of slowing down, having transferred to the West End and subsequently received 5 nominations at this year’s Olivier Awards with Mastercard ceremony, including one for Mastercard Best New Musical.
The show has also claimed 7 major other awards, released a West End cast recording, announced plans for a major film production, been screened live into over 500 cinemas across Europe (with plans for screenings across North America this winter), and welcomed in the likes of Michelle Visage to the cast. It was recently announced that Layton Williams will take on the role of Jamie from late January.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’s producer, Nica Burns, said today, “It is the stuff of dreams that our home-grown British musical based on a local true story, should have found a home in the heart of the West End. We are all absolutely delighted.
“A very big thank you to our fantastic audiences that have kept us here and to everyone who has supported us so brilliantly. Please keep on talking about Jamie so we can celebrate many more birthdays!”
With songs by Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer-songwriter of The Feeling, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is the funny, feel-good musical sensation that’s taken the West End by storm. The show follows 16-year-old Jamie New, who steps out of the shadows of prejudice to become the star he was destined to be.
