Last night, we were throwing it back to the 1950s to become the perfect domestic goddesses (don’t pretend there isn’t one hiding in us all) for the opening night of West End transfer Home, I’m Darling.
Following its sold-out run at the National Theatre, Home, I’m Darling, written by Laura Wade, has successfully transferred to the Duke Of York’s Theatre for a limited run. It’s a hilarious and poignant comedy about a couple trying to save their marriage by transporting their lives back to the fifties – but this doesn’t go entirely to plan.
The story follows Judy, a fifties housewife, as she and her husband, Johnny try to save the spark in their marriage. Committing to the decade in its entirely, including everything from the decor of their home to the TV channels they watch, their commitment to the lifestyle, along with money troubles, means cracks begin to show.
You’ll feel right at home watching this show, with the cutest set of a quintessentially English fifties house – complete with flamingo shower curtain (spoiler, sorry!). The comedy is sharp and the performances wholly moving. But we’re not the only ones who loved the show – here’s what the rest of the audience also had to say on social media:
