Olivier Award winner Eve Best will return to Shakespeare’s Globe this summer to play the Egyptian queen in Shakespeare’s Antony And Cleopatra.
The actress, who made her directorial debut with The Globe’s production of Macbeth last summer, will be joined in the drama by Phil Daniels, who will play Antony’s devoted friend Enobarbus.
The production, directed by Jonathan Munby, will run from 17 May to 24 August.
Best, who played Beatrice in The Globe’s 2011 production of Much Ado About Nothing, won the Olivier Award for Best Actress in 2005 for her performance in Hedda Gabler a the Almeida Theatre. On screen she’s best known for her role as Dr O’Hara in Nurse Jackie.
Quadrophenia star Daniels will soon be seen at The Globe’s new indoor space, the Sam Wanamaker Theatre, leading the cast of The Knight Of The Burning Pestle. The actor, who famously joined Britpop band Blur for hit single Parklife, previously appeared in the Bankside venue’s 2011 production The God Of Soho.
Antony And Cleopatra will be one of four Shakespearean productions playing at Shakespeare’s Globe this summer as part of the venue’s Arm And The Man season. It is joined by Titus Andronicus, Julius Caesar and The Comedy Of Errors.
