Jennifer Ellison and Tracy-Ann Oberman will be unpacking their flight bags at the Comedy from 1 October when they join the cast of Marc Camoletti’s Boeing Boeing to play air hostesses Gloria and Gretchen.
Directed by Matthew Warchus, the fast-paced farce has been playing at the Comedy since February and now extends its booking period to 5 January 2008.
Ellison is to play American air hostess Gloria, the role originated by Tamzin Outhwaite. Ellison is well-known for her television credits including Brookside, Hotel Babylon and Hell’s Kitchen. She also appeared in the films The Cottage and The Phantom Of The Opera, and has previously starred in the West End as Roxie Hart in Chicago.
Oberman takes over the role of German air hostess Gretchen. The actress became a familiar face on our TV screens in the soap Eastenders, playing the murdering wife of Den Watts, Crissie. Other screen credits include Sorted, Doctor Who, Where The Heart Is and Kiss Me Kate. An experienced stage actress who has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Chichester Festival Theatre, Oberman has previously performed in London at the National, the Soho and the Hampstead, where she returns next February with her co-written play 3 Sisters On Hope Street.
Boeing Boeing is set in Paris, where Bernard, a successful architect, thinks he has got his complicated love life sorted. Engaged to three air hostess girlfriends, he manages to juggle his relationships with the help of airline timetables and his long-suffering housekeeper Bertha. When old school chum Robert arrives, Bernard is eager to show-off his handiwork, but then schedules change and a new turbo-charged Boeing aircraft is introduced, and Bernard’s smooth operation is thrown into chaos.
The current cast of Boeing Boeing is Adrian Dunbar as Bernard, Rhea Perlman as Bertha, Neil Stuke as Robert, Doon Mackichan as Gretchen, Amy Nuttall as Gloria and Elena Roger as Gabriella. Kevin McNally is to play Bernard from 3-29 September.
