Marc Elliott will join the previously announced Richard Fleeshman, Jenna Russell and Jonathan Slinger in Jamie Lloyd’s forthcoming production of Urinetown The Musical at the St James theatre.
The EastEnders actor, who most recently appeared on the London stage in Stephen Belber’s acclaimed drama Tape at the Trafalgar Studios, will take on the role of Mr McQueen in the highly anticipated musical, which plays at the venue from 22 February to 3 May.
Elliott, whose other stage credits include the National Theatre’s production of The History Boys and The Maids at the Lyric Hammersmith, will be joined in the cast by musical theatre regular Chris Bennett, Shrek The Musical’s Aaron Lee Lambert, current star of The Light Princess, Adam Pearce, Singin’ In The Rain’s Charlotte Scott, Karis Jack, who makes her UK stage debut in the production, and Alasdair Buchan, who recently understudied all three male roles in Lloyd’s production of The Pride at the Trafalgar Studios.
Completing the line-up set to bring the Tony Award-winning tale of love, greed and corruption to London in the new year are Katie Bernstein, Cory English, Madeleine Harland, Rosanna Hyland, Julie Jupp, Mark Meadows, Joel Montague, Jo Napthine and Matthew Seadon-Young.
Featuring music and lyrics by Mark Hollmann and a book and lyrics by Greg Kotis, Urinetown The Musical is set in a futuristic world afflicted with a terrible drought, where a business tycoon has monopolised all public toilets and anyone caught short is sent to the infamous town of its title.
The hit show, which features songs including It’s A Privilege To Pee and Snuff That Girl, will receive its London premiere at the St James theatre following the acclaimed run of Sarah Ruhl’s UK Theatre Award-winning play IN THE NEXT ROOM or the vibrator play, which plays until 4 January.
