Elf, the hit musical based on Jon Favreau’s much-loved Christmas film starring Will Ferrell, will receive its London premiere at the Dominion Theatre next winter.
The production, which opened in Plymouth and Dublin in December 2014, will arrive at the venue from 24 October (press night 5 November), playing a limited 10-week season until 2 January 2016.
Based on the festive comedy film, which sees Ferrell star as Santa’s rather unconventionally sized little helper, Elf tells the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who crawls into Santa’s sack on Christmas Eve and is taken back to the North Pole.
Unaware that he’s human, Buddy’s enormous size and lack of toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth and leads him on a journey to New York City to find his father.
Featuring a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, with music by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, the production is directed and choreographed by Morgan Young, who previously brought Christmas cheer to the Dominion Theatre in the form of 2014’s festive hit White Christmas.
Elf joins an eclectic mix of events taking place at the West End theatre this year. Film screenings Sing-along Frozen (18 to 28 February) and Psycho With Live Orchestra (4 March) will entertain audiences at the venue prior to the return of Lord Of The Dance: Dangerous Games from 13 March. Casting for Elf is still to be announced.
